Investigation of quasi-cleavage in a hydrogen charged maraging stainless steel

چکیده
Slow strain rate tests on hydrogen-containing specimens of PH13–8Mo maraging stainless steel showed H-assisted subcritical quasi-cleavage cracking, accelerating material failure. Fractographic analysis revealed that is composed flat brittle areas and rougher areas. Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) was performed a secondary subcritically grown crack. High resolution EBSD significant crystal lattice rotation, hence consequential plastic deformation, concentrated between the main crack tip cracks located ahead it. Quasi-cleavage consisted {100} cleavage connected by ductile ridges, suggesting discontinuous mechanism, involving re-initiation new tip.

Lattice Dilation in a Hydrogen Charged Steel
The effect of hydrogen charging on the lattice dilation in an ASTM A710-HSLA steel specimen was studied using neutron diffraction. First, spatially-resolved strain measurements were made on a pre-cracked steel double cantilever beam specimen under a constant crack opening displacement (COD). Measurements were made at the crack tip region for in-plane and throughthickness lattice strains. Then, ...
متن کاملA New Maraging Stainless Steel with Excellent Strength–Toughness–Corrosion Synergy
A new maraging stainless steel with superior strength-toughness-corrosion synergy has been developed based on an innovative concept of alloy design. The high strength-toughness combination is achieved by forming dispersive nano-sized intermetallic compounds in the soft lath martensitic matrix with a slight amount of residual austenite. The good corrosion resistance is guaranteed by exactly cont...
متن کاملFractographic Investigation of Failure in Stainless Steel Orthopedic Plates
Plates of austenitic stainless steel are often used in orthopedic surgery for fixing ends of the broken bones and for repairing fractures. The paper analyzes a premature breakage of six plates for fixing broken bones with different patients during their recovery. Each plate's breakage can induce serious aftermaths such as a new surgery, unexpected undesired complications and a prolonged healing...
متن کاملThe Interaction between Hydrogen and Surface Stress in Stainless Steel
This paper reveals the interaction between hydrogen and surface stress in austenitic stainless steel by X-ray diffraction stress measurement and thermal desorption analysis before and after being charged with hydrogen. The surface residual stress was varied by surface finishing using several disc polishing agents. The obtained results show that the residual stress near surface had a significant...
متن کاملInvestigation of Mechanical Properties in Welding of Stainless Steel SA240-TP316 and Steel SA516-GR60 Cladded with Stainless Steel SA240-TP316
Stainless steel cladding is the formation of an alloy by creating a thin layer of stainless steel on another metal. In this research, a layer of SA240-TP316 austenitic stainless steel was coated on SA516-GR60 steel. Experiments were conducted to compare the mechanical properties of SA240-TP316 and claded SA516-GR60 steel welds in order to investigate the possibility of replacing the SA240-TP316...
